Alvarez de Toledo, Verdejo-Godello, Bierzo , 750ml, Spain
The Vineyards
The vineyards of Alvarez de Toledo are located in the "Gold Mile" of El Bierzo's wine country. Exceptionally orientated terrains with the best soils of the entire region. The area surrounds the towns of Villafranca del Bierzo and Valtuille de Arriba, the most traditional production areas of the Mencia grape variety for red wines with an altitude range of 420 to 500 meters above sea level.
Plants are 40 to 60 years old Mencia vines. Their reduced production of bunches maximizes quality. We harvest them manually so our wines are loyal to the terroir of our region, el Bierzo.
The Godello variety for white wines is highly aromatic and has an exceptional quality making balanced wines with a great fruity and floral bouquet.

Wine Enthusiast 92pt: Smoke and a hint of jalapeno on the nose are met with a juicy and creamy fruitiness on the palate. The ocean is very much in the background, too, creating an overall intriguing effect. 80% Verdejo, 20% Godello

James Suckling 90pt: Fresh herbs, sliced green apples and some limes on the nose. Refreshing, simple and gastronomic, with a medium body, bright acidity and a pithy, medium-length finish.
