The Wine

An estate cru at the foot of Castagneto Carducci, Costa di Giulia is one of the first white Bolgheri wines produced: since ‘97, Vermentino has been flanked by Sauvignon blanc for 40% of the final blend. The two varieties are fermented separately. Costa di Giulia embodies Bolgheri's potential for white grapes, giving a wine of great class and longevity.

 

Vinification

The hand-picked grapes go straight into de press without destemming. Pressing is slow and soft. The must decant at a temperature of 4-5 grades C for 2-3 days . it is then destemmed, brought to 13 degrees and inoculate. Fermentation takes place at a very low temperature for a very long time, sometimes up to a month. Vermentino in steel and Sauvignon in concrete.

Fining

Maturation in stainless steel on the fine lees for about six months. It is filtered and bottled before Easter, but its full expression occurs after the summer.

 

Longevity

Surprising ability to evolve over the years but still recommend consumption from the second year onwards.
